Step 1: Choose Your Safari Slot

Jawai safaris run in two daily windows:

• Morning safari (5:30 AM – 9:00 AM): This is when leopards are most active, often returning to their granite dens after a night out. It’s generally the slot with the highest sighting probability.
• Evening safari (3:30 PM – 7:00 PM): Leopards become active again as the heat drops, and the low sun over the hills makes this the favourite slot for photographers.

Each drive runs 3 to 3.5 hours. If sightings are your priority, I’d always recommend booking both a morning and an evening safari on the same day rather than just one — it’s common for guests to get a clean sighting on the second drive even if the first one was quiet.

Step 2: Pick Your Jeep Type

• Private Jeep (exclusive use, 1–6 pax): The vehicle is entirely yours, so your guide can linger at a sighting, backtrack, or change routes based on real-time tracker updates. This is what I’d recommend for photographers, families, or anyone who wants flexibility.
• Shared Seat (pay per seat): You join other travellers on a fixed route through the main sighting zones. It’s a more budget-friendly way to experience Jawai and works well for solo travellers or first-timers.

Always double-check which type you’re booking before you pay — this is the single most common point of confusion for guests booking their first Jawai safari.

Step 3: Choose Your Package

We currently run three safari formats, depending on how much time you have and what kind of experience you’re after:

The standard 3-hour safari covers a focused morning or evening drive through the core sighting zones. The full-day safari combines both the sunrise and sunset windows with a break in between, giving you two dedicated attempts at a sighting in a single day. The Safari with High Tea adds a curated tea/snack stop out in the landscape — a popular choice for couples and photographers who want to slow down and take in the scenery between drives.

Step 4: Confirm What’s Included

Before you finalize payment, check that your booking clearly states:

• A trained local tracker — essential, since current leopard movement changes daily
• Pickup and drop-off from your resort or stay
• Tea/coffee or snacks (full meals aren’t standard on the regular safari; high tea can be added as a package upgrade)

Step 5: Get Written Confirmation

Once your slot, jeep type, and package are finalized and paid for, you should receive confirmation in writing — by email or WhatsApp — stating:

1. Date and time of your safari
2. Jeep type (private or shared)
3. Pickup point and pickup time
4. Assigned tracker/guide

If any of these details are missing from your confirmation, follow up before your visit date rather than assuming it’ll be sorted out on arrival.

Best Time to Book Your Safari

October to March is peak season in Jawai — the weather is cool, sighting activity is high, and jeeps and trackers get booked up quickly. If you’re planning a visit in these months, book at least a few weeks in advance where possible, especially for weekends and around Indian holiday periods.

A Few Things Worth Knowing

• No forest permit is required — Jawai is community-managed, not a national park, so be cautious of anyone charging extra for a “forest permit”
• Arrive 10–15 minutes before your slot for a quick safety and sighting briefing
