Jawai’s leopard landscape is shaped by individual leopards, their territories, family groups and the changing balance between rival males and females across the rocky hills of the region. This timeline documents some of the notable leopards observed around areas such as Sena, Jeewda, Bisalpur, Baliraja, Jawai Bandh and surrounding hills. From Nagwasi Male and Nagini to Sena Male, 6B, Fenella, Maya, Jeevda and the newer generation, each leopard has played a part in the changing story of Jawai’s leopard population. The timeline is based on local observations and field knowledge, and records known movements, territories, family relationships and significant sightings over the years.

Notable Leopards of Jawai: A Timeline of Their Stories

NAGWASI MALE  [2008-2016]

He was large male leopard that once was very vocal and present around the sena region. He moved around andhaari, black hill, jeewda hill; and most of the sena hills. He last seen fighting with Bhairav male who killed him in territorial fight. Local folks called naagwasi male DATA / grandfather

NAINA FEMALE [2017]

She was very friendly and once dominant female of sena region. She had litter many cubs over the years but sadly she died because of electrocution while chasing peacock.

NAGINI FEMALE [2014-2019]

Nagini was real queen of jawai and she was the one who made jawai famous because of her boldness and camera friendly nature. She mainly traverses around sena region, silent valley, black hill, hirodi etc. sadly her reason of death is still a mystery. Her body found near naaggiri west in winter 2019.

SENA MALE/NIGEL [2016-2020]

He was very bold and calm male who rule jawai for more then 5 years. He regularly patrol more then 50km of his territory. He had more then 8 female once under his territory. He mainly traverses around bisalpur, sena, jeevda, jawaibandh and dudani region. He last seen in 2020 after that he vanished from our area possibly he died in territorial battle.

6B MALE [2019-2025]

He is very big male currently rulling over sena, jeewda region and mating with jeevda female, Padma female and Fenella female. He is old now possibly around 10 years. Once he was rulling bisalpur area but overthrew by baliraja forest land male in 2020

FENELLA FEMALE [2017-2025]

She is currently carrying the throne of Jawai Queen. She currently roams around bisalpur region and had many cubs some of them still alive and thriving in different parts of jawai. She is very aggressive and bold. She is most photographed leopard of JAWAI.

BALIRAJA FORESTLAND MALE

He was first seen in balraja hill and was very shy at first but over the years he became so bold and very vocal. He defeated 6B Male and gain his bisalpur territory. He mated with various females some of them are Jeevda, Fenella and Tipariya female. He was so aggressive towards other males. He last seen in 2024 after that he suddenly disappeared from jawai area and possibly killed in territorial battle.

MAYA [2014-2020]

She was very large female and often confused with male leopard because of her size. She was very shy but aggressive female. We first saw her at hill 2  sena after that she moved towards bisalpur hill and baliraja hill. She was very elusive and rarely seen during  jawai leopard safari. She litter many cubs one of them is tipariya female. We last saw her in 2021 after that there is no updates possibly killed in battle.

MAYA SUBADULT FEMALE 1 [2018-2025]

One of maya’s cub from third litter she mainly traverses around baliraja south and west region. She is shy at first but now becoming bold day by day.

MAYA SUBADULT FEMALE 2 OR TIPARIYA [2018-2025]

She is also maya’s cub from third litter and sister of maya subadult 1 she mainly traverses around balraja north and bisalpur hill. She also bold and large female just like her mother. We mainly sees her in balraja.

JEEVDA FEMALE [2017-2025]

She is possibly sister of Fenella female and from  perwa region. She mainly seen around sena region and jeevda hill. She currently dominating sena range. Bold female and litter many cubs over the years.

PADMA FEMALE [2021-2025]

This is one of fenella’s cub from possibly her third litter. She is bold and has been observed moving around sena jeevda region.

F1 FEMALE [2021-2025]

This is also one of fenella’s cub from her third litter. She shy and seen around bisalpur range.

F3 FEMALE [2021-2025]

This is also one of fenella’s cub from her third litter. She rarely seen but still in bisalpur region.

SHIV MALE [2025]

He is dominating bisalpur range currently and mating with all the female in bisalpur region big male and very bold.

The leopard story of Jawai is constantly changing as new generations establish territories, form family groups and compete for space across the region’s hills.
